Mason Greenwood ‘edging closer’ to Man United departure with new club leading the race
Mason Greenwood is ‘edging closer’ to his Manchester United departure ahead of the summer transfer window as a new club seems to be leading the race.
Greenwood, 22, spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Getafe after it was decided that he would not restart his career at United.
This decision came after the player was arrested on suspicion of domestic abuse in January 2022.
Although the CPS eventually dropped the case, United conducted its own internal investigation, which took several months. Despite nearly reinstating the player, fan pressure compelled the club to loan Greenwood to Getafe for the season.
He ended the campaign as the Spanish club’s Player of the Season after scoring 10 goals and registering six assists.
United are now looking to sell the academy graduate for around £40 million, which has essentially ruled out a return to Getafe, which he would’ve been open to.
According to The Sun, Greenwood is now nearing a permanent departure from Old Trafford, with Juventus leading the race to sign the forward.
Initially, Greenwood preferred to stay in Spain and pursue a move to Barcelona. However, those plans were disrupted by manager Xavi’s departure.
Now, a move to Italy seems likely, with Juventus at the front of the queue to sign the 22-year-old this summer.
The Italian club has been monitoring Greenwood since Christmas, sending various scouts to observe his performances at Getafe. They have all returned with glowing reports, believing that Greenwood could seamlessly transition to Serie A and bolster Juventus next season.
