Marcus Rashford’s chances of returning REVEALED as Michael Carrick “would like” him back at Manchester United

The chances of Marcus Rashford returning to Old Trafford have been revealed, following reports that Michael Carrick wants him to return.

Marcus Rashford has looked like a new man since his summer loan move to Barcelona.

He was named in Rúben Amorim’s “Bomb Squad” – alongside Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho – before his move, but appears to have benefited massively from a change of scenery.

Rashford has picked up nine goals and nine assists in 31 appearances for Hansi Flick’s Barcelona, including a wonder goal against Newcastle United in the Champions League.

In truth, the England international appears to have returned to his former glory in Barcelona, performing at a level close to his form under Erik ten Hag or Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

It has now been revealed that Michael Carrick “would like” Rashford to return to Old Trafford next season if he is made the permanent head coach, as per The Telegraph.

Chances of Rashford’s return revealed

It’s safe to say that almost every United fan would love a full-firing Rashford back at Old Trafford, especially considering he came through the academy system.

His 138 goals and 426 appearances for the club grant him the ‘legends’ title on the official Manchester United app, so who wouldn’t be happy to see him back at his best, for his boyhood club?

However, The Telegraph have also revealed that it is “hard to see” a world in which Rashford returns. His shirt number now belongs to Matheus Cunha, and he was pushed out of the door by more than just former head coach Rúben Amorim.

His departure was said to be a “club decision”, and United were so intent on moving him out of the club that the loan deal didn’t contain a recall clause for the January window.

Barcelona also have the option to buy Rashford at the end of his loan deal for just £26 million, with Hansi Flick said to be “keen” on activating that option.

A sad end for Rashford

No matter how much some fans may want it, Rashford is highly unlikely to return to United, even if Carrick makes a plea to him.

The abuse Rashford took from some of the fanbase would’ve been too much for many to handle, and nobody can blame him for seeking a move elsewhere.

It would be a rather brilliant fairytale for Rashford to return to United and fire on all cylinders as he once did, but that seems too perfect to be true.

In truth, it’s probably best for all parties to move on at the end of the season, permanently. But United fans will never forget how good Rashford was when given the support he more than deserved.
