Last week, it was revealed that Manchester United had walked away from active negotiations with Chelsea for Mason Mount.

Manchester United had three offers for Mason Mount rejected, with the highest bid being a £50 million fee plus an extra £5m in add-ons, with Chelsea instead asking for a £58m guaranteed fee with a further £7 million added on to the deal.

Although it was widely reported that Mount himself had already agreed on personal terms with United to join Erik ten Hag‘s team, the negotiations between both clubs had broken down.

However, as reported by the Telegraph, the deal is not dead in the water – United will hold talks with Chelsea this week over their bid to sign the England international.

It is said that although United remain “adamant” they will not pay Chelsea’s £65m valuation, they are thought to be willing to negotiate around the structure and finer points of their latest £55m bid, which was initially rejected by the London side.

Whether talks between United and Chelsea will be face-to-face remains unclear, but the two clubs are prepared to try to find common ground.

Further to this, there is said to be an acknowledgement on both sides that it would be better to resolve the situation before Chelsea’s pre-season training starts.

Manchester United are due to start their pre-season training on Monday 3 July, with the first group of players reporting to training being those who did not take part in any international fixtures last week.
