Manchester United should listen to what Bruno Fernandes said about his Portuguese team-mate Goncalo Ramos last month.

Manchester United are looking for a new first-choice striker this summer. Erik ten Hag has already trialled Cristiano Ronaldo, Anthony Martial, and Wout Weghorst in the position, but neither striker was able to satisfy his needs.

The club have been heavily linked with Harry Kane so far this window, with the England captain said to be Ten Hag’s first choice, however a deal for the player feels pretty much dead in the water after Tottenham demanded £100 million for the player.

As an alternative option, Bruno Fernandes explained last month that he feels Benfica striker Gonçalo Ramos would be a great fit in the Premier League at Manchester United.

“I think Gonçalo has all the conditions to play in the Premier League,” Fernandes told Portuguese channel Sport TV. “He plays with a lot of intensity, he presses very well and is really good inside the penalty area. He is strong. Obviously, he is still very young and will improve a lot.”

“If he continues to work as he has worked so far, I believe he has the potential to become one of the best strikers in the world. He is already close to that level, but he still needs to go to a more competitive league and prove himself. He will go there, something I believe he has all the capabilities to do.”

Asked whether the striker could join him under Erik ten Hag this summer, Fernandes added: “Here, the best players will always be valued, be it Gonçalo or someone else. I think he has all the qualities to play in the Premier League, and when I say in the Premier League, I also mean Manchester United.

“I think he could become a great reference in years to come. But it is still not in my hands, it is up to the sporting director. When I am in that position, I will make those decisions.”

Ramos scored 27 goals and provided a further 12 assists in 47 appearances for Benfica last season, and established his name on the world stage with a fantastic hat trick against Switzerland during the 2022 World Cup round of 16 after starting ahead of Ronaldo in the tie.

He may be the perfect option for Ten Hag next season.
