One of Manchester United’s transfer targets will leave his current club this summer, opening the door to a transfer.
Manchester United are on the hunt for several new additions this summer, especially if they can qualify for the Champions League, meaning their game total could go from just 40 this season to over 60 next year.
The first target will be a new head coach to replace Michael Carrick. The former United midfielder was awarded the job as “head coach until the end of the season”, but could be in the running himself after Darren Fletcher’s short stint in the aftermath of Rúben Amorim’s sacking.
No matter the manager, director of football Jason Wilcox will also be searching for at least one new defensive midfielder, with Casemiro’s summer departure already confirmed. Manuel Ugarte could also leave in the transfer window.
Central defence may also be of interest this summer, as Harry Maguire’s contract will expire at the end of the season, as it stands. United are reportedly looking to renew his contract, but he can currently negotiate with other clubs.
Centre-back target announces summer departure
Marcos Senesi has been linked to United since the start of the January transfer window, when United reportedly made an inquiry about his future. While they didn’t get their answer then, they have now.
As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Senesi’s agents have told AFC Bournemouth that he wants a “different experience” and will leave the club in the summer. Bournemouth appeared to have accepted the decision.
However, AreaNapoli have reported that Napoli have “their sights set on” the Argentine central defender, also naming Aston Villa, Everton, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur as other suitors.
United have been pushed down the transfer race, but that doesn’t rule them out, as some wage concerns remain. As per Gianluca Vitale, Senesi is believed to be on close to £70,000 per week – a wage that would be more than acceptable for United, but could be too much for other clubs.

Do United need Senesi?
Senesi is a Premier League-proven central defender, who would be a good addition to United’s defensive reinforcement, especially if the Red Devils return to the Champions League. But that doesn’t answer the question.

If he did joined United, Senesi would be second or third choice at left-centre-back, with Lisandro Martínez firmly ahead and Ayden Heaven battling for the next spot.
When all centre-backs are fit, United have five senior options, not including Tyler Fredricson or Luke Shaw, who both played as a central defender under Rúben Amorim.
So, in short, no. United do not need Senesi. He would be a good addition, but Jason Wilcox must first focus on signing new midfielders, a left-winger and, of course, appointing a permanent head coach.
