Manchester United receive transfer setback as Premier League club U-Turn revealed
Manchester United have received a transfer setback as one Premier League club’s U-Turn has been revealed.
The Reds have been making movements in the transfer market but to no avail so far as they look to plug the holes in Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Central defence is one of the main priorities for INEOS, particularly after Raphaël Varane’s departure, and they have several targets in mind.
Jarrad Branthwaite is clearly the preferred option. United has already agreed on personal terms with the 21-year-old, but Everton rejected their opening £43 million bid for him.
The Merseyside club are not interested in any offers below £70 million, which is a price that United are unwilling to meet as they walk a financial tightrope this summer.
Instead, a potential option has been including a player in a swap deal for the England international. Everton have previously been cited with interest in Victor Lindelöf and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Including either of those defensive options could have made a deal for Branthwaite more realistic.
However, the most recent reports from the BBC have clarified that the Toffees are not interested in Lindelöf or Wan-Bissaka this summer.
That leaves United without a real swap option in their pursuit of Branthwaite, meaning they will likely need to fork out the extra cash or look elsewhere for a left-footed defensive option.
