Manchester United targeting £50m star in January, Thierry Henry offered unbelievable praise for him
Manchester United are reportedly targeting a £50 million star in the January transfer window who Thierry Henry offered unbelievable praise for.
According to a new report from French outlet L’Équipe, Manchester United are among a group of clubs who have enquired about Christopher Nkunku’s situation at Chelsea.
The report claims that Nkunku is unhappy with his playing time under Enzo Maresca and is open to leaving Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.
Finally, it was claimed that United would be willing to take the French forward in the mid-season window, although a potential price tag was not mentioned.
Nkunku joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig last year in a deal worth just over £50 million and it seems unlikely that United’s Premier League rivals would be willing to sell him at a cut-rate price.
The 24-year-old still has five years remaining on his contract at Chelsea but has been playing a bit-part for them in the Premier League this season.
Thierry Henry’s praise for Nkunku
Nkunku was regarded as one of the most exciting players in the Bundesliga during his time with RB Leipzig.
During his last season in Germany, the forward scored 23 goals and registered nine assists in just 36 appearances in all competitions.
His form there earned praise from France and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, who said that he ‘loves watching’ Nkunku in action.
“Yes I do love watching him,” Henry told CBS Sports. “Goals and assists. He is just having fun this season. But he is adding goals this year.
“He’s in the national team now. His confidence… the world wants him.”
Nkunku’s career has stagnated since his move to England, but any deal with Chelsea would not be easy to do and United have several areas of concern in Ruben Amorim’s squad to address in upcoming transfer windows.
It seems like an unlikely deal, but many would have said the same about Mason Mount before he made the move to Old Trafford.
