Manchester United have been handed a fresh transfer boost after a potential deal between two Premier League clubs fell through.

The Reds are looking to complete several important pieces of business in the coming weeks ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Erik ten Hag’s side needs additions at centre-back and striker. INEOS will prioritise those positions in the coming weeks.

Jarrad Branthwaite has been named the club’s favourite option to boost the defensive unit. The Everton defender has agreed personal terms with the Old Trafford club.

However, United’s initial bid of £43 million was rejected by the Toffees, who seem resistant to reducing their £70 million price tag for the 21-year-old. While the Reds are unwilling to match that figure.

There are reports that state that Everton needs to raise funds before June 30 to ensure they are safe within the financial rules of the Premier League.

Some have suggested that United playing the waiting game could pressurise Everton into lowering their demands for Branthwaite. Yet, recent reports claiming that Dominic Calvert-Lewin was a target for Newcastle United threw a spanner in the works.

That potential deal provided Everton with an opportunity to make big money before that unofficial deadline. However, according to the MEN, the Magpies have pulled out of that deal.

Everton has other potential big-money sales, such as Amadou Onana, although it is unlikely that any deal will materialise before he returns from Euro 2024.

If United want to get a deal over the line for Branthwaite, it seems like there will have to be a certain level of compromise from both sides, but it will help if Everton are unable to raise significant funds elsewhere in the coming weeks.
