Manchester United starlet nominated for award, he “wowed” Erik ten Hag in training
One Manchester United starlet who ‘wowed’ Erik ten Hag in training has been nominated for an award after last month’s performances.
The Reds have been able to promote several young talents during Erik ten Hag’s time at the club.
Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo have become mainstays in the team while players like Willy Kambwala, who has since departed the club, Toby Collyer and Harry Amass have also come through.
Another young talent, Jack Fletcher, appears to be on the verge of first-team chances at Old Trafford.
Son of Darren Fletcher, current staff member and former player at United, Jack joined the club from Manchester City last term.
He was a crucial part of the Treble-winning under-18s side and has since been promoted to the under-21s for the new campaign.
Fletcher nominated for PL2 Player of the Month
Fletcher has had a brilliant start to the season and has adapted quickly to the new and improved level of play.
The midfield player started his season with a bang as he scored twice against Barnsley’s first team to mount a 3-2 comeback in the EFL Trophy.
One of those goals was an outstanding volley from distance that caught the attention of many fans on social media platforms.
Fletcher followed up with performance with two impressive displays in the Premier League 2 (PL2). He scored against Stoke U21s in a 4-1 win before providing two assists during a 3-1 victory over Blackburn.
This impressive start to the campaign earned 17-year-old Fletcher a nomination for the PL2 Player of the Month for August. He is the youngest player nominated for the award.
How Fletcher wowed Ten Hag
Midway through last season, reports revealed that Erik ten Hag was ‘wowed’ by Fletcher’s training performances and had plans to accelerate the young midfielder’s development.
A more recent report from Manchester World indicated that Ten Hag remains a strong admirer of Fletcher. While the 17-year-old currently trails Toby Collyer in the pecking order, Fletcher is still considered to have significant potential to break into the first team.
Fletcher participated in the club’s pre-season tour. However, he only featured in the initial friendly matches before heading to the U.S.
Instead of game time, Fletcher used the opportunity to continue training with the first team. At the same time, the more seasoned Collyer was given on-field chances.
Ten Hag and his coaching staff will closely monitor Fletcher’s progress. If he keeps impressing, a first-team debut could be on the horizon.
