Erik ten Hag MUST take Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s advice, says Manchester United legend
Erik ten Hag has been told he must take the advice of former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær to avoid a serious problem at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag‘s first two seasons at Manchester United have seen the club win two trophies, securing the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
However, last campaign, the side finished eighth in the Premier League table, with many criticising the lack of positive performances in the competition. Ten Hag, however, chose to keep pointing at the two trophies, explaining that United are the second most successful team in the country.

In a press conference towards the end of his three-year spell at Old Trafford, former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær explained that he feels trophy successes can be used to mask other issues in a team.
“It’s more of an ego thing for managers and clubs: ‘We’ve finally won something’,” he explained.
“We need to see progress and if we progress well enough and we perform well enough, the trophies will end up at the club again. But it’s not like a trophy will say that we’re back.
“No, it’s the gradual progression and the consistency of being in the top of the league, in and around there, and then add the odd trophies.
“Sometimes a cup competition can hide the fact that you’re still struggling a little bit.”
This is something that former United striker Lee Sharp has echoed, insinuating that Ten Hag must take the advice of Solskjær and not use the trophy point whenever he is faced with criticism about performances.
“If Manchester United’s performances continue in this vein, I don’t think that Erik ten Hag will be in a job at Christmas,” Sharpe told casinoapps. “From what we’ve seen of Manchester United so far, there aren’t too many signs that things are going to change.
“Manuel Ugarte is coming in, you would imagine he’ll be a plus point, but I’m not sure. Everything feels quite volatile at the club. It’s never a good sign when your manager is fighting back against journalists in press conferences; he keeps quoting the two cup wins in the last two years.
“Lots of clubs would have liked to have won those, but you judge a team by their league standing, and there’s nothing really to suggest that Manchester United are going to be any better than they were last season.
“Everything is on a knife-edge after three games, which is a crazy situation. Manchester United spoke to a lot of managers before the exercised Erik ten Hag’s one-year extension clause.
“I think its noticeable that they didn’t give him another three years. They just gave him another year, and that tells you something about what they’re thinking. I think there might be some movement before Christmas at United, unless he can quickly get things together.”
