Manchester United eyeing £12m versatile signing in 2025 after he starred at Olympics
According to sources within Spain, Manchester United made enquiries this summer for Sevilla defender Juanlu Sanchez.
Sanchez, 21, joined the Sevilla youth system aged 12, rising through the ranks before making his first team debut against Barcelona in 2021.
Primarily used on the right side of the pitch in defence, midfield or as a winger, Sanchez covers several positions where the Red Devils have lost players this summer with the departures of Jadon Sancho and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Sanchez has also been used centrally by Sevilla so far this season, including in the opening game of the season where he scored against Las Palmas.
Despite his young age, the Spanish defender has already picked up thirty-one appearances in La Liga alone, this includes starting three of Sevilla’s four league matches so far this season.
Now, a report from ABC Sevilla notes that Erik ten Hag’s side reached out to the Spanish side this summer in an attempt to gain a greater understanding of the player.
The report notes that a representative from United spoke with a colleague of Sevilla’s sporting director, Victor Orta, regarding the defender.
Importantly, it was outlined that, as of this summer, United had not made an offer for Sanchez, who has a contract with the Spanish side until June 2026.
Additionally, it was stated that United’s interest in Sanchez is believed to have come as a result of his efforts as part of Spain’s Olympic gold-winning side this year.
At 21 years old, Sanchez falls into a similar age bracket to the signings made by Ineos for the Red Devils over the summer. According to transfermarkt, he also has a modest market value of around £12 million.
Bringing five players to Manchester, United’s latest additions have an average age of 23, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s outfit aiming to steer away from signing players approaching the end of their careers for large sums.
