Manchester United set to rival Chelsea and Tottenham for promising forward after deadline day switch

A Spanish report has detailed that Manchester United could be set to fight Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur for a promising striker.

While Manchester United continue to struggle on the pitch, the transfer team continue to impress away from it. The summer business has already proven to be a success despite the poor start to the season.

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have been shining lights for Rúben Amorim this campaign, with both players taking responsibility upon themselves to drag United through difficult games after their Premier League transfers.

Although he is yet to get up to full speed, Benjamin Šeško netted his first goal against Brentford and could take a confidence boost going into the next games, with Liverpool just over the horizon in a few weeks.

Diego Leon and Senne Lammens are both yet to make their competitive debuts for the club, but could play a key role in United’s future as two promising young players. Jason Wilcox must continue the good business if United are to return to the top of the Premier League.

United eye move for Eyong with Chelsea and Spurs

While Šeško could lead the line for several years, United seem to be keen to create competition for the Slovenian, even with Chido Obi and Joshua Zirkzee already at the club. Gabriele Biancheri has also shown his talent in recent weeks as a young centre-forward option.

However, Fichajes have reported that United have shown a “concrete interest” in signing Etta Eyong, along with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. The Cameroonian striker moved to Levante on Deadline Day for just £2.6 million from Villarreal.

Villarreal retain a first refusal and a sell-on clause for Eyong, so any transfer in the coming years could be influenced by this. The 21-year-old has already shown great promise since his summer move, with three goals in three games, including one against Real Madrid.

With other Premier League clubs interested, United may have to act fast if they want to secure Eyong’s signature, although Amorim doesn’t need another centre forward, especially an inexperienced one like the young Cameroonian.

United MUST prioritise a midfield signing

Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte have shared the defensive midfield role this season, but neither are good enough to play in United’s engine room, especially alongside an attacking-minded player like Bruno Fernandes.

Signing a midfielder should’ve been a priority last summer, but it definitely needs to be the main focus in the January and summer transfer windows.

United have been handed a good opportunity to sign a new player, and that has to be a midfield signing, as neither defensive midfielder is good enough for the level United want to be at.

Another forward signing – especially a young one – is pointless with the talent already at the club. United need people to service the attackers, not forwards who will struggle without any service to them.
