Manchester United ruin Newcastle United’s chances of signing Premier League target after Bryan Mbeumo deal

Manchester United have ruined Newcastle United’s chances of signing a Premier League talent after officially announcing Bryan Mbeumo.

After what feels like years, Manchester United have finally announced that the deal for Bryan Mbeumo has been completed and confirmed that he will go on the pre-season tour to the USA.

Mbeumo will likely partner Matheus Cunha behind a centre forward in Rúben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, meaning Bruno Fernandes will have to drop back into central midfield alongside Casemiro or Manuel Ugarte.

United’s new No.19 will also force Amad to drop back to right wing-back, meaning he will have to compete with Diogo Dalot for gametime on the right-hand side, with Noussair Mazraoui more likely to play as a central defender.

The Mbeumo signing means United have spent over £120 million on just two players this summer, despite losing the Europa League final and missing out on European football altogether.

United ends Newcastle’s Wissa interest

Like Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa was also heavily linked with a move away from Brentford this summer, but the Bees were unprepared to lose both players, especially after Thomas Frank left for Tottenham Hotspur.

Wissa was reportedly quite close to a move to Newcastle United, potentially replacing Alexander Isak if he joined Liverpool, but a move to St. James’ Park now appears to be impossible for the DR Congo international.

Sky Sports have reported that Wissa is now highly unlikely to leave Brentford now Bryan Mbeumo has signed for Man United, despite interest from Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur.

The three other Premier League clubs may need to explore alternative options, potentially opting to make a move for Alejandro Garnacho, who appears destined for a move away from Old Trafford this summer.

Aston Villa and Chelsea have already expressed interest in Garnacho, but no concrete negotiations have begun for the Argentine, leaving another club as a potential option.

United cause striker merry-go-round after Mbeumo deal

Securing the deal for Mbeumo was great for United, but also for Brentford because they receive upwards of £60 million and get to keep Wissa for at least one more season.

Newcastle, who could still lose Isak, may be forced into signing a more expensive striker, but they have also missed out on Hugo Ekitike, who has now joined Liverpool.

Arsenal appear to have noticed this seen as they have completed a move for Viktor Gyokeres, ensuring nobody else could steal the Swede at the last minute of a long transfer pursuit.

The Red Devils remain interested in a striker signing this summer, with Benjamin Sesko the most likely, but the Slovenian may not be the best option for Amorim’s side.

United and Newcastle could be battling over Sesko’s signature in the last weeks of the transfer window, but Jason Wilcox will likely need to sell Antony and Jadon Sancho before making a move for a centre forward.
