Manchester United receive transfer boost despite “real goalscorer” having release clause increase this week

Manchester United have received a transfer boost, despite a new release clause for one of their striker transfer targets.

The summer transfer window is absolutely crucial for Manchester United, especially if they want Ruben Amorim to succeed at the club.

New signings are needed across the pitch as United have been poor all season, despite the big money fees they paid for the majority of their players.

As Ralf Rangnick once said, “open-heart surgery” is required at Old Trafford if they want to compete for the Premier League, or even for the top four, anytime soon.

There have been lots of reports for different targets, but this can only mean the Red Devils are considering everyone they can, rather than focusing on just one target, like they have in the past – Jadon Sancho being the best example.

Centre-forward is one key position for Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s transfer team to consider during the summer, with Liam Delap’s name at the front of most of the speculation, but one star may be an option, despite his new release clause.

Sesko available despite release clause increase

As reported by Sky Sports Germany, Benjamin Sesko has a new release clause of €80 million, approximately £67 million, a similar fee to what Napoli would demand for Victor Osimhen.

However, Philipp Hinze and Florian Pletenburg have suggested that clubs won’t have to pay Sesko’s full release clause in one payment to acquire the RB Leipzig forward.

Rather than asking for €80 million, Leipzig will instead offer clubs the chance to pay in instalments or with add-ons, for a fee that would eventually exceed his original release clause.

This gives United an opportunity to sign Sesko – described as a ‘real goalscorer’ – by paying the majority of his fee in later years and a smaller amount up front, also with the chance of some of the value being in add-ons.

Instalment deals are becoming more common in football, but release clauses aren’t always paid in instalments, so this represents a huge opportunity to sign a player who shouldn’t really be an option.

United should ignore Sesko despite transfer boost

Despite his unique instalment release clause, Sesko’s eventual fee will still be too much for United to consider paying this summer.

Transfer fees will be raised by players leaving the club, but if Amorim wants to improve his squad, he needs to focus on cheaper options that could improve over time.

Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu was Amorim’s first signing at United and he represents exactly the type of player that Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell should be looking at in the summer.

Dorgu is a young player with lots of potential who was available for a cheap fee; similarly to Delap, who will be available for a discounted £30 million due to Ipswich’s relegation.
