Manchester United are reportedly ready to sanction one loan move in January as Rúben Amorim continues to try to manage playing just one fixture a week.
Rúben Amorim has a huge selection headache to deal with for most of the current campaign due to a lack of European and Carabao Cup football.
Often, Manchester United build squads that are big enough to cope with playing an average of two fixtures a week, but with just one Premier League fixture a week on the club’s agenda, many of their talented players are being underused.
Those such as Kobbie Mainoo, Joshua Zirkzee, and Ayden Heaven have mostly seen action from the bench so far this season, with new goalkeeper Senne Lammens yet to make his debut after joining last month.
The limited fixtures also mean a lack of chances for young Academy stars on the edge of first-team minutes, such as Shea Lacey and Chido Obi.
United ready to sanction Zirkzee loan
United’s signing of Benjamin Šeško last summer for an initial £66 million fee was a surprise to some, considering that Amorim wanted a more experienced striker and the fact that the side is clearly crying out for a new defensive midfielder.
Šeško started his first few games at the club from the bench, with Matheus Cunha playing at striker, but the 22-year-old soon gained a starting spot. His competition, Zirkzee, has made four appearances, all from the bench, and does not appear poised to break into the starting XI anytime soon.
According to The Sun, United are now ready to consider loaning the 24-year-old out of the club in January. Previous reports have suggested that Italian side Como are interested in the “fantastic” striker.
CaughtOffside further comment that the club may also be open to permanent offers, should bids in the region of £30-35 million be tabled in the winter window to make space for another striker to join.
Who could replace Zirkzee in January?
If Zirkzee were to be moved on in the coming January transfer window, United would have to replace him with an experienced forward who knows how to score Premier League goals.
While Šeško is an elite talent who possesses all the traits to become a world-class striker, he’s still learning and adjusting to the intensity of Premier League football. He cannot be relied upon to score 20 or more goals this season.
There are several experienced options out there, such as Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Brighton’s Danny Welbeck. Still, the ultimate name United would no doubt want to bring in is Harry Kane from Bayern Munich.
The 32-year-old has an astonishing 17 goals in nine appearances so far this season, and with 217 to his name in the Premier League, he knows how to net in the toughest league in the world, too.
According to multiple reports, Kane has a £57 million release clause in his contract that becomes active in January. If United continue to underperform in front of goal, they will no doubt want to explore this avenue.
