Manchester United have reportedly reached “an agreement in principle” for a key striker target who could cost up to £65 million in the summer transfer window.
Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United side have seriously struggled in front of goal this season, with a lack of goals coming from the centre forward position.
Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have failed to be regular goal threats for United, meaning the Red Devils have netted just 38 goals in the Premier League this season, almost half of the number of goals Liverpool have scored.
Bruno Fernandes is United’s top goalscorer with just eight, with Amad and Alejandro Garnacho behind with six and five goals in the league, respectively.
A new striker is needed if the Red Devils want to return to the top of the Premier League and compete for the Champions League.
United reach “agreement in principle” for Osimhen
TuttoSport have reported that United have reached an “agreement in principle” to sign Napoli’s Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window and this comes soon after it was revealed that Matheus Cunha is looking likely to be moving to Old Trafford.
They also state that the Red Devils will have to pay the release clause for clubs outside of Italy, approximately £65 million, to sign the Nigerian striker.
Despite the large fee, United are “increasingly intent” on bringing Osimhen to Old Trafford to replace Hojlund as Amorim’s starting striker.
Italian and Turkish outlets have reported that Osimhen to United is advanced, but this has yet to reach any English sources, perhaps suggesting that the deal isn’t as far as what’s been reported.
The Red Devils have also been linked to other striker targets, most notably Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, with a deal becoming even more likely if McKenna’s team is relegated.
United should stay clear of Osimhen
Despite Osimhen’s impressive performances for Napoli and Galatasaray in recent years, United should stay clear of the Nigerian forward due to his high transfer fee.
While he would no doubt improve the frontline, United are already set to spend over £60 million on Cunha and can not afford to spend just as much on another target, with so many other positions needed in the summer.
It has been reported that Delap has a relegation release clause of just £30 million, a deal that can’t be ignored for someone who has impressed so much in his first season in the top flight of England.
This also leaves more money for other transfer targets, with United potentially needing two goalkeepers, two midfielders and potentially two centre forwards.
