Manchester United planning position change for “unwanted” player after transfer U-turn
Manchester United are planning on a position change for one “unwanted” player as a transfer U-turn occurs before deadline day.
Victor Lindelöf was initially expected to depart the club this summer, with United aiming to sign two new centre-backs for Erik ten Hag’s backline.
Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro have both been signed. Still, Lindelöf has not attracted much transfer interest this summer, and a recent foot injury has seemingly prevented any potential transfer move.
There had been links to rejoin Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce, while Everton has also been previously reported as interested.
Meanwhile, it has been heavily reported that United are no longer planning to sign a left-back in the final days of the summer window.
This is despite the long-term injury of Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw suffering yet another setback recently.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Lindelof is viewed as one of the players who could provide cover at left back throughout the season.
The report suggested that the Swede could be the sixth-choice centre-back once everyone is fit, behind Yoro, De Ligt, Lisandro Martínez, Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans.
Lindelöf did make several appearances at left-back last term but failed to impress there.
It is expected that he plays either on the right or left side when on the pitch, but a mid-season exit could be likely should he get minimal game time before then.
Another interesting detail from the aforementioned article is that Harry Amass has been promoted to the first-team squad after impressing in pre-season.
It does not seem like it will take long before he is challenging for the left-back spot at Old Trafford, especially if injuries continue to haunt Malacia and Shaw.
