Manchester United outcast “determined to stay” at Old Trafford amid transfer interest
One Manchester United outcast is “determined to stay” at Old Trafford this season despite recent transfer interest.
The Reds have started the season slowly, winning just one of their opening three Premier League fixtures.
After the international break finishes, Erik ten Hag’s side will return to face Southampton away from home, where three points will be vital.
Despite the English transfer window being closed, other countries are still active in their respective markets, and several United players–including Casemiro–have been subject to reports of interest.
Antony is determined to stay at United
According to a new ESPN report, Brazilian winger Antony is “determined to stay” at United despite interest from Fenerbahce.
The Turkish transfer market remains open until Friday, and Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce are among the suitors for the underperforming United wide-man.
It was further explained that Antony is keen to feature more regularly, but his preference is to stay at Old Trafford even if Fenerbahce make a formal offer.
Antony has started on the bench in every game so far this season and only appeared in the defeat against Brighton, where he came on in the 90th minute.
The winger’s last start for the club came in the 4-0 defeat against Crystal Palace in May last season.
Antony has a lot of work to do
Since his £85 million move from Ajax, Antony has woefully underwhelmed, and it will take a lot for him to even get back into the side.
His game-time so far this season is an indicator of his role now. Both Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho are better options than him on the right, and the Brazilian hasn’t shown the ability to play in different positions.
To get a chance in the team, Antony will either have to wait and impress in Europa League and Carabao Cup fixtures or see if any of his competition gets injured.
It seems like a far way back for him to get fans back on side but we have seen crazier things happen in football.
