Manchester United may change their stance on the future of Scott McTominay after AS Roma sanctioned their latest sale.

It is no secret that Manchester United need to raise money through player sales if they are to complete the requests of Erik ten Hag this summer.

After selling Anthony Elanga to Nottingham Forest for £15 million, Fred to Fenerbahçe for £8.5m, and the pending sale of Harry Maguire to West Ham for £30m, there are others who are still set to face the axe.

One of those who may leave, and would fetch a high price, is Scotland international and United academy graduate midfielder Scott McTominay.

His predecessor at United, Nemanja Matic, left the club to join AS Roma under Jose Mourinho last summer – however, just a year later, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Serbian will leave the club.

This may have an affect on McTominay’s future, as although it was previously stated that United expect the midfielder to stay, AS Roma was documented to have genuine interest in the player – but this interest would be dictated by the future of Matic.

With Matic no longer in the picture, it may well occur that Roma will look to increase their interest and make a bid for the player who Mourinho handed his professional debut to over six years ago.

The former United and Chelsea manager was a big fan of the midfielder during his time at Old Trafford. At the end of the 2017/18 season, Mourinho provided McTominay with an impromptu award for his developments across the campaign.

United value McTominay at around £45m, but with the club needing to raise funds, they may accept a lower fee.

In terms of a potential replacement, this transfer could fund a move for an additional midfielder such as Everton’s Amadou Onana, who is valued between £50 million and £60 million.
