Manchester United have made their final decision over a January transfer after a bizarre contract clause was revealed.
Manchester United could be set for a busy January transfer window, with lots of business needed if Rúben Amorim wants to continue his good run of form in the Premier League.
The need for January signings has increased in recent days, with several injuries picked up against Tottenham Hotspur. Harry Maguire was the first to make way, as he appeared to pull his hamstring in the second half, although the extent of his injury hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Benjamin Šeško was also forced off, with no substitute allowed to be made due to five subs already being made. The Slovenian centre-forward appeared to suffer a knee injury, but United have yet to confirm how serious the issue is. With Joshua Zirkzee looking likely to leave the club, Jason Wilcox may have to look for a new forward.
United will also be focusing on people leaving the club in the winter window. Tyrell Malacia will almost definitely be the first out of the door after being named in the “Bomb Squad” during the summer, but he has since been reintegrated into the first team.
The January sales could pave the way for some loanees to return to the club in January, including Harry Amass and Radek Vitek, who have both excelled in the Championship this season.
United make Amass final call
Amass was loaned to Sheffield Wednesday at the end of the summer transfer window. United’s young left-back was one of the only signings made by Wednesday due to their heavy financial restrictions.
The original deal was bizarrely a six-month loan, rather than a full season, leaving United in the situation where they must decide to let the loan expire or allow Amass to spend the full campaign in the Championship.
Wednesday fans were concerned they could lose Amass in January, but Rob Staton has now reported that the former Watford youngster is expected to stay at the club for the remainder of the season.
A full season in the Championship could do Amass the world of good. Before his loan, he struggled against physical opposition, but experience in England’s second tier should serve him in good stead when he returns to Old Trafford.
Amass form forces Leon decision
With Amass playing so well in the Championship, it brings up an interesting question about Diego Leon. The young Paraguayan was chosen to stay at the club over Amass in the summer, but he has yet to make his senior debut.

Leon is now a regular for Travis Binnion’s under-21s, sharing the left-back minutes with Bendito Mantato, but he will want to be playing regular football soon.
United are unlikely to loan out Leon this season as he is still acclimatising to life in Manchester, but he could be sent away from the club in the summer window, with Amass returning.
How United manage this situation is crucial, as they have already “gave up” one promising left-back in Alvaro Carreras to Real Madrid.
