Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole “genuinely hopes” Erik ten Hag takes a big risk as he prepares his side to face Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Manchester United have one final fixture before the March international break as they host Liverpool at Old Trafford in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

The FA Cup represents Erik ten Hag‘s final chance at claiming silverware this season, having already crashed out of the Carabao Cup and Champions League while sitting sixth in the Premier League table.

The upcoming game against Liverpool could be season-defining for the United manager, and former United striker Andy Cole believes Ten Hag has been handed an advantage in the draw.

“I’m so old school, it’s unbelievable, and I’m really going to show my age here, but back when I played for Manchester United, we would always play the same, home or away,” Cole told BetFred.

“We would never change. When you’re the home team, you shouldn’t change for anybody. You’re the home team, so that’s your advantage.”

Continuing, he explained that he hopes Ten Hag takes a big risk against the Premier League title contenders and goes “for the jugular” against Jurgen Klopp’s team.

“I genuinely hope that Manchester United go out there, in a one-off cup game against a great team, and go for it. If you don’t go for it in a one-off cup game, then when will you ever go for it? Go for the jugular and try to win the game as the home team.”
