Manchester United have changed their mind on their potential striker targets ahead of the summer transfer window.
Ruben Amorim is targeting a new striker signing for his Manchester United side, with goals being among the biggest issues at the club this season.
Several targets have been linked to replace Rasmus Hojlund as United’s starting centre forward, with Joshua Zirkzee likely to play the majority of his football as a no.10 next season.
Chido Obi will also be looking for more football next season, after starting his first game for the Red Devils at Brentford in a 4-3 defeat last weekend.
Many have named Liam Delap as the priority target, especially with Ipswich Town’s relegation, meaning he would cost just £30 million due to a release clause.
However, Santi Aouna has reported that United have now changed their mind on the priority of their striker targets this summer.
Gyokeres is the main priority
FootMercato have reported that Viktor Gyokeres is United’s main priority, especially if Amorim’s side win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League. However, a deal for Gyokerers will not be easy, so the Red Devils have drawn up a three-man striker shortlist.
Behind the Sporting striker is Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, but the Nigerian forward will demand a salary of over £10 million per year, equating to approximately £200,000 per week, perhaps not fitting into United’s new wage structure.
Despite his high fee of over £60 million, Osimhen is said to be ahead of Delap in the priority list if United can’t sign Gyokeres.
Amorim’s side will not have significant funds available in the summer, with most of the transfer budget coming from player sales and contract exits, so a deal for Gyokeres or Osimhen could be very difficult to complete.
Delap should be the priority
With Ipswich’s relegation from the Premier League, Delap represents a cheap striker signing who has experience and proven quality. Unlike Gyokeres and Osimhen, United could sign the Ipswich striker and allow more funds for other quality targets.
The only other striker available for a cheap fee with experience is Lille’s Jonathan David, whose contract is set to expire in June.
David is yet to sign a new deal with the French club, meaning he is available for United to negotiate with before the transfer window opens.

However, unlike Delap, David is a striker who likes to drop deep and link play, rather than making runs in behind, comparing more to Zirkzee than Hojlund.
Therefore, Delap should be the priority signing, but David could be looked at as someone who could provide cover in attacking midfield and up front.
