Manchester United are “keeping a close eye on” French sensation amid midfield conversations

Manchester United have been named as one of the clubs to be “keeping a close eye on” a young midfielder.

Manchester United’s need for a midfielder is growing day by day, especially with Kobbie Mainoo’s ongoing situation. Rúben Amorim seems unwilling to offer a chance to the England international despite a difficult run for the Red Devils.

It’s not just Mainoo that United may need to replace. Manuel Ugarte appears to have hit rock bottom at Old Trafford, playing like a shadow of his Sporting CP self despite having the same manager.

Casemiro could also be set for a departure sooner rather than later. His current contract expires at the end of the season, and he would have to take a serious pay cut if he were to stay at Old Trafford.

Even Bruno Fernandes may be looking at a summer exit if United continue on their current trajectory. While the captain will want to help turn the club around, he will also recognise he could be winning trophies at the highest level instead.

Jason Wilcox could be forced into a complete midfield overhaul, so signing at least one in January is crucial, especially if Mainoo is looking for a loan move, as several reports have stated.

United eye Bouaddi

Ayyoub Bouaddi is one of the most promising midfielders in the French division and now looks set to be a part of Didier Deschamps’ national team plans, as per Santi Aouna.

The LOSC Lille midfielder signed a contract extension on Friday; his new deal will keep him in France until 2029, although there are rumours of a release clause in his contract.

Despite his new deal, Santi Aouna has reported that United are “keeping a very close eye” on the 18-year-old, although they will face competition from Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid if they do make a move for the Frenchman.

Bouaddi could be one of United’s midfield targets for the January window if Mainoo or Ugarte do leave the club, but Wilcox may have to consider a cheaper option after the midfielder’s contract extension.

United must prioritise the midfield

In Amorim’s system, the midfielders are required to cover more ground than in most other tactical setups.

Casemiro and Fernandes have improved this season, but United won’t achieve their full potential under Amorim until new midfielders are signed.

With Mainoo and Ugarte looking more likely to leave in January, a midfielder has to be the priority signing ahead of other positions, despite the need for new wing-backs as well.

If Amorim does leave Old Trafford, midfielders will still be needed, with Casemiro heading for the exit door in the summer. It’s a no-brainer for the recruitment team.
