Diogo Dalot has struggled for form at Manchester United this season, but has improved since Rúben Amorim’s sacking after Leeds United.
Manchester United have generally improved since Rúben Amorim left the club, following comments where he referred to himself as the “manager” rather than the “head coach”.
While Darren Fletcher couldn’t get a win on the board in his two games in charge of the club, he showed signs of improvement before Michael Carrick began his tenure with wins against Manchester City and Arsenal.
Benjamin Šeško is one to hugely benefit from Amorim’s sacking. The Slovenian scored three goals in two games under Fletcher and has scored two crucial goals for Carrick against Fulham and West Ham United.
Another to improve is Diogo Dalot. He was one of the favourites under Amorim, but was forced to play as a wing-back, rather than as a natural full-back. In possession, Dalot often found himself in a left-winger’s position, due to moving to the left flank on multiple occasions.
Despite his improved performances, Dalot is still coming under criticism from United fans, and the board’s stance on the Portugal international has now been revealed.
United’s stance on Dalot sale
Dalot was withdrawn for Joshua Zirkzee late on against West Ham United. The full-back picked up a needless yellow card and was quickly subbed off. Carrick may consider Noussair Mazraoui for a start against Everton.
In recent weeks, Dalot has been heavily linked to Real Madrid, with reports stating that the club are a fan of him as he can comfortably play as both a left and right-back.
TeamTALK have reported that Jason Wilcox is happy with Dalot but understands that his next contract would require a pay rise, which United may not be willing to sanction.
The report continues to state that United are “considering” selling Dalot at the end of the season, and that Real Madrid would likely be at the front of the queue, especially given recent news about Daniel Carvajal’s future.
Carvajal “very upset” at Madrid
Despite being a veteran of the club, Daniel Carvajal is understood to be “very upset” with Real Madrid, specifically with Alvaro Arbeloa, the new manager, according to The Touchline on X.
Carvajal still believes he can play top European football and could leave Madrid at the end of the season. Perhaps United will look for a swap deal involving Dalot and Carvajal.
However, Carvajal would likely demand a starting spot at Old Trafford, but Mazraoui would want that place, especially if Dalot leaves in the summer.
United could be forced to search for a younger right-back to replace Dalot and compete with Mazraoui.
