Man United eyeing £85m deal Peter Schmeichel said Erik ten Hag should have made last season
Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a transfer that Peter Schmeichel told Erik ten Hag he should have made last season.
December 2023 was a very poor month for Manchester United. Playing eight games across the month, Erik ten Hag‘s men lost five, drew one, and won two, and they were knocked out of the Champions League in the process.
One of the more damaging defeats was a 2-0 loss away from home against West Ham in the Premier League, where goals from Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus thoroughly sunk the Reds.

In that fixture, Kudus was fantastic. He had just signed for the London club from Ajax in the previous summer for a fee believed to be around the £40 million mark.
Following the results, United club legend Peter Schmeichel was seemingly outraged that Ten Hag decided to sign Antony over Kudus for the Old Trafford club in 2022.
“There really is something about him, you know,” Schmeichel said on Premier League Productions. “Right side, left side, coming down the middle, half the price of Antony. I still don’t get that. If you know that your player so well, why are you picking Antony over him?
Continuing, the former goalkeeper said: “Okay, it’s his first season, you know. When people get to know him, he might just drop a little bit in level, but at the moment, he’s doing really, really well.
“And the goal that he took, he took it so well. Yes, loads of mistakes (by United) in that goal, but you still have to put it in the back of the net, and he did. 10 goals in his first season before Christmas, that’s pretty good going.”
According to The Mirror, United are now “on the trail” for Kudus this summer, seemingly heeding the words of Schmeichel.
It is currently unknown how much Kudus could cost, but there have been rumours of an £85 million release clause with clubs such as United and Liverpool linked to the dazzling forward.
