Manchester United “monitoring” 62-goal Premier League star as four transfer rivals emerge
Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Matheus Cunha as Rúben Amorim looks to add goals to his new side this summer.
Manchester United’s transfer strategy for 2025 is beginning to unfold under the leadership of new head coach Rúben Amorim.
Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag, who departed with the team sitting 14th in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League, despite a summer investment of over £200 million.

With a reduced budget on the horizon, the club are focusing on Amorim’s ability to maximize the potential of the existing squad.
While January signings are unlikely, preparations for summer transfers are underway, with several sales expected to fund new additions.
United eyeing Wolves’ star
According to TBRFootball, United are one of two Premier League sides who are said to be monitoring Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha this summer.
The Brazilian international has 62 career goals to his name and has been on fire in the Premier League this season, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in the club’s opening 12 fixtures.
Aside from United, Tottenham and Aston Villa are also credited with interest, while Newcastle United and Serie A giants Napoli sent scouts to watch him score twice against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
However, the report states that any move for Cunha would have to be in the summer window, as it’s stated that Wolves will refuse to sell any key players in January.
United finding a replacement?
United’s consistent links to strikers in the last month points towards the fact that they may be fishing for a replacement for Joshua Zirkzee.
The 23-year-old Netherlands international has failed to make an impression at United since his £36 million move in the most recent summer window, having scored just one goal in 18 appearances.
There have been rumours that he may be used in a swap deal for multiple players this summer, with the most recent links coming in the form of a transfer that would see Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz head the other direction.
Amorim himself has already recognised that Zirkzee needs improvement. “Josh has to understand that he has to go into the box for the crosses,” he said of the player yesterday.
