Manchester United “ask” for Juventus midfielder in stunning Joshua Zirkzee swap deal
According to the latest reports from Italy, Manchester United have requested that Juventus send them a midfielder in exchange for Joshua Zirkzee this summer.
Manchester United’s 2025 transfer plans are starting to take shape under the guidance of new head coach Rúben Amorim.
Amorim took charge following the departure of Erik ten Hag, who left the club struggling in 14th place in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League, despite spending over £200 million on summer signings.

With a more constrained budget ahead, United will rely on Amorim to improve the current squad.
Although activity in January seems unlikely, the club are preparing for summer moves, with outgoing transfers expected to play a key role in funding new additions.
Zirkzee’s future in doubt
After a poor opening few months at the club, the future of summer signing Joshua Zirkzee is in doubt, with many feeling he does not fit the mould that new boss Amorim desires.
In 19 appearances, the striker has scored just one goal and provided two assists, which has led many to speculate that he may be on his way out of the club this summer.
The 23-year-old has been linked with Juventus on multiple occasions, with Italian outlet TuttoJuve providing the latest on this front.
Juventus are said to be keen to pounce on Zirkzee’s situation, with Juventus boss Thiago Motta familiar with the Netherlands international following their stint together at Bologna.
A midfielder swap deal
According to the report, written by journalist Massimo Pavan, United have requested that Juventus embark on a player exchange that would see midfielder Douglas Luiz join Old Trafford.
Luiz has failed to make much of an impression at Juventus following his summer move from Aston Villa. Still, he was touted as one of the most tenacious midfielders in England while he played in the Premier League.
Although he is currently injured, before this, he had made just two starts for the Turin outfit following his £42.35 million move from the Birmingham club.
JuveFC commented that Zirkzee may relish the opportunity to play under his old manager and mentor once again. At the same time, Luiz may be attracted to rejoining the league he has succeeded in.
Both players swapping back to their seemingly preferred leagues just one year after their respective moves could be seen as a rather stunning turn of events, but in football, anything can happen.
