Manchester United have shown their transfer priorities as they reportedly “give up” on one of their most highly rated targets this summer.

Scott McTominay‘s 2023/24 season at Manchester United has been his most impressive yet. The midfielder scored 10 goals under Erik ten Hag‘s leadership.

Debuting under Jose Mourinho in 2017, McTominay has served as a versatile player for each manager during his seven-year tenure with the first team. Despite his contributions, this season appears to be his last at Old Trafford, with UtdDistrict understanding that the club is fully prepared to sell McTominay in the current transfer window.

In 2023, McTominay was nearly sold to West Ham for £30 million, but the transfer fell through, keeping him at United for another season. Now, with INEOS needing to generate funds for new acquisitions, McTominay is attracting interest from other Premier League clubs.

With Casemiro also on the list to potentially leave Old Trafford this summer, United have been scouring the market for potential signings in midfield this summer and have been closely linked with 19-year-old Portuguese talent Joao Neves across the last three months.

However, according to O Jogo, cited by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have abandoned their pursuit of Joao Neves from Benfica this summer.

Neves’ release clause is said to be over £100 million, similar to that of Enzo Fernandez, whom Chelsea signed in January 2023 for a reported £106 million from the same Liga Portugal squad.

Instead, United are shifting their attention to Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who recently played for Uruguay in their Copa America semi-final elimination by Colombia.

Following United’s recruitment meeting on Monday, this action proves that they are now refining the players they want and can feasibly afford to sign this summer and have seemingly selected Ugarte as the player who takes priority.

It has been reported that PSG want around £45-60 million for him this summer, depending on which outlets you believe.
