Manchester United’s sale of Hannibal Mejbri has been clarified after conflicting reports surrounding his move to Burnley emerged.

Hannibal Mejbri’s career at Manchester United hasn’t progressed as hoped since his €10 million arrival from AS Monaco in 2019.

While he joined the club as part of an ambitious academy project, Mejbri has struggled to make a significant impact under Erik ten Hag. In contrast, emerging talents like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo have excelled.

With Toby Collyer ahead of him in the pecking order, Mejbri’s future at Old Trafford is no more after the club agreed to sell the player to Championship side Burnley.

On Monday morning, Fabrizio Romano reported that Mejbri’s move to the northern side was a loan with an obligation to buy, meaning United would not receive a fee for the player until next summer.

However, reports later in the day emerged that the move was a permanent transfer rather than an initial loan, leading to conflicting reports in the media surrounding Mejbri’s move.

However, the Italian journalist has now clarified the situation. Romano explained that although the deal was initially set to be a loan with an obligation to buy, United requested that this be changed to an immediate transfer.

The Old Trafford club wanted the funds deposited into their accounts this summer rather than the following. He also explained that United have retained a sell-on clause, although a specific percentage of any future sale is not mentioned.

Mejbri underwent his medical with the club on Monday, and once the contracts are all signed, the move will be completed. As of yet, no transfer fee has been revealed, but this should be reported in due course.

We want to wish Hannibal luck in his next adventure and thank him for his time at the club.
