Manchester United have been handed a blow in their ideal transfer plans as a club CEO has confirmed that signing a star from Old Trafford is “unrealistic”.

This summer, Manchester United have made strategic moves by signing  Joshua ZirkzeeLeny YoroMatthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui, spending a total of £139 million to strengthen four key areas of the team.

On the outgoing side, they have raised approximately £60 million through sales, with players like Aaron Wan-BissakaMason Greenwood, and Willy Kambwala leaving Old Trafford to continue their careers elsewhere.

While the 2024 summer transfer window is still open, United remains active in the market and are looking to generate as many sales as possible. The Athletic reported that United are looking for a fee of around £5 million for Christian Eriksen this summer. The Danish international’s contract expires in 2025.

For the past few months, Eriksen has been linked to Belgian side Anderlecht, following manager Brian Riemer’s admission earlier this summer that he admires the player.

However, Jesper Fredberg, CEO of the Belgian Pro League club, has admitted that signing the 32-year-old is likely out of their reach. He also reveals that if the door for his signing does open, he wants to be the first one through.

“I myself have never mentioned the name Christian Eriksen, but of course, I know Christian. He is a top player who is still contracted for one year at a top club,” Fredberg explained to Het Nieuwsblad.

“At the moment, (signing Eriksen) doesn’t seem realistic. But if a door suddenly opens, I want to be the first to step in.

“It’s not just about what Manchester United is asking for,” explains Fredberg. “But it will also be about the player’s salary demands in such a case.”

Speaking recently, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that there are currently no offers for Eriksen despite the number of stories circulating surrounding his future..

“For Eriksen, it will depend on the proposals. A lot of rumours, a lot of stories,” the Italian reporter explained.

“But from what I heard, there is still no bid on Manchester United’s table. They have not received any formal approach from any club.

“Let’s see if someone will arrive with a good proposal for Eriksen, and if that proposal is quite attractive for the player, that could be the case otherwise [that he will leave].

“At the moment, the situation is still quiet from what I’m hearing, so it will depend on proposals. But again, a lot of noise, but still no bids on the table.”
