Manchester United’s stance on Gleison Bremer has been explained as the Juventus centre-back addresses speculation surrounding his future.

Manchester United are looking to sign multiple central defenders this summer, with the futures of all but Lisandro Martínez in doubt.

Raphaël Varane will depart from the club once his contract expires at the end of this month, while Victor Lindelöf and Harry Maguire may transfer out of Old Trafford. While talks are ongoing surrounding a new contract for Jonny Evans, as it stands, his term with the side will expire along with Varane’s.

United want both a right-footed and left-footed centre-back this summer, and UtdDistrict understands that Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer is on the list of defenders they retain an interest in.

However, with Erik ten Hag’s future still in flux, no concrete action or steps have been taken to turn their interest into formal talks with the Serie A giants surrounding the 27-year-old right-footed defender.

Bremer is thought to have a release clause of between £50-60 million, and speaking to Marca while on international duty, he has been quizzed on the recent speculation surrounding his future.

“I am in a great club, the biggest in the world, and I am happy,” Bremer said to the Spanish outlet. “I just won my first title, and I want to make history. It is clear that you can never say never. We’ll see what happens.”

When further asked about interest from clubs outside Italy, Bremer added that he would “like to try” playing in the Premier League.

“Yes, there are clubs like [Real] Madrid or Barca that are top. La Liga, Serie A and the Premier League are the best leagues in the world – that’s why one day I would like to try [them]. But, I insist, I am happy at Juve.”
