Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund has heaped praise on Christian Eriksen following Denmark’s 2-1 win over Sweden on Wednesday night.

Playing a role in both of Denmark’s goals, Eriksen was at his very best on international duty. Collecting an assist after just two minutes, the 32-year-old would wow the audience in Copenhagen with a wonder goal in the 86th minute.

Discussing Eriksen’s performance for Denmark with Tipsbladet, Hojlund would heap praise on his teammate for club and country.

“It was great to see the goal,” Hojlund admitted. “It was good to see him play 90 minutes again. He is a player with an incredible amount of quality, and I would describe him as world-class.”

Hojlund’s comments about Eriksen receiving “90 minutes” of game-time are particularly telling, after the Danish midfielder saw his role in Ten Hag’s side significantly reduced this season.

Making 28 appearances for Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United, Eriksen played the full 90 minutes on just four occasions. Three of those four occasions occurred in September, with Eriksen moved to a bit-part player in the MUFC squad.

In March, Eriksen acknowledged his new role in the United team, saying he “Had a conversation with Erik [ten Hag] about being unhappy with the situation.”

Following his Man of the Match performance against Sweden on Wednesday night, Eriksen would again discuss his reduced role:

“Sometimes the coach looks the other way,” Eriksen told TV2 Sport. “But then I play for United, so there is just a battle for places because there are a lot of good players.”

Eriksen, who played a vital role for Ten Hag in both the Dutchman and the midfielder’s first seasons at United, is widely expected to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Entering the final year of his £150,000 a week deal, the former Inter Milan and Ajax midfielder is believed to have several suitors from across Europe.
