“They would love to offload…” Manchester United to cash in on midfielder in January
Manchester United are reportedly looking to sell one of their midfielders in January as Erik ten Hag continues to trim the team’s wage bill.
Manchester United cleared out over £100 million worth of players last season as Erik ten Hag‘s squad underwent a major overhaul.
Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay, Jadon Sancho, Willy Kambwala, and several others were sold for substantial transfer fees, with the new INEOS leadership focused on generating funds for reinvestment.

Although these sales, combined with the release of Anthony Martial and Raphaël Varane from their contract packages at the end of June, United shaved millions off their monthly wage budgets.
However, it seems that the club wants to continue this wage reduction trend and clear out their highest earner, Casemiro, as soon as possible.
Casemiro is said to earn a salary of over £350,000 a week, which puts his yearly wage at just over £10 million.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has been speaking about the club’s January transfer plans and has informed fans that United will be looking to cash in on Casemiro as soon as possible.
“I’m told they’ll look to cash in on him as soon as they can, on the 1st of January if possible,” told the Football Insider.
“He’s one of the biggest wage-earners and he’s not going to feature regularly in the first team.
“He’s been benched because he hasn’t been performing and can’t do it any more.
“I’m sure they would love to offload him if they could to get him out of the squad and off the wage bill, which would allow them to spend some money.”
Casemiro signed for the club in 2022 from Real Madrid for around £60 million and was vital in United securing their first trophy in over six years, scoring the opening goal in the Carabao Cup final.
However, since the beginning of 2023/24, the Brazilian midfielder’s talents have been on a steep decline, and he has since been dropped from the side in favour of Manuel Ugarte or Christian Eriksen.
