Manchester United could earn £50m next summer as two giants plot £60m Mason Greenwood bid
Manchester United could be looking at a £50 million transfer boost as two European Giants circle Marseille forward Mason Greenwood.
Manchester United‘s 2024 transfer window saw the club sell a whole host of former players as Erik ten Hag and co embarked on a large-scale clearout of the Old Trafford squad.
While those such as Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, and Matthijs de Ligt were brought in, the club cashed in on over £100 million in sales with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Willy Kambwala, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka across the summer window.
Another of those who was sold was academy graduate Mason Greenwood. In January 2022, Greenwood was banished from playing for the club after accusations of domestic violence.
Following a loan move to Getafe, he secured a permanent transfer to Ligue 1 side Marseille for around £20 million.
While the deal also included add-ons of up to £6.7 million, United also negotiated a sell-on clause of around 50 per cent, meaning should the 23-year-old perform well at his new club, United would receive half of any transfer fee taken on by Marseille.
According to the Sun, Greenwood’s performances have now caught the eyes of two European giants. The English winger has scored five goals and provided one assist during his first six games for the club.
The report claims that La Liga side Barcelona are keen on prioritising bringing Greenwood to their Camp Nou ground next summer and are willing to pay around £60 million for the forward.
However, Ligue 1 side Paris St. Germain are believed to have sent scouts to watch Greenwood in recent weeks, and they will get a closer look at him when Marseille face PSG at the Orange Velodrome towards the end of the month.
Should either transfer materialise for the aforementioned fee, United would then receive around £30 million next summer, which would be a fantastic boost.
Beyond this, they are also expected to receive a fee of around £20-25 million from Chelsea for Jadon Sancho once his loan move becomes permanent next summer, totalling their income to at least £50 million before the 2025 summer window even opens.
