Jose Mourinho ‘closely monitoring’ developments of Manchester United star for 2025 transfer
Jose Mourinho is reportedly monitoring the developments of one Manchester United star, lining up a potential move in 2025.
In the 2024 summer transfer window, Manchester United took significant steps to enhance their squad, with Erik ten Hag orchestrating the arrival of five new first-team signings: Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui.
The club also made a concerted effort to balance the books, sanctioning multiple high-profile sales that raised over £120 million. Key departures included Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay, Jadon Sancho, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

With the season now underway, clubs are starting to consider what areas they need to recruit in, with former United manager José Mourinho keen on signing a current out-of-favour United defender.
According to Sabah, Mourinho is keeping a keen eye on Victor Lindelöf. The report suggests the Swedish defender is on the Portuguese manager’s radar for a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce.
Lindelöf, who has previously been linked with a reunion with his former boss, is being closely monitored by the Istanbul club, particularly as his contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season.
With the centre-back in the final year of his deal, Fenerbahce could potentially approach him in January to secure a pre-contract agreement which would allow him to join the team on 1 July 2025, or alternatively, sign him or a nominal fee in January.
Lindelöf, who has struggled for regular game time due to injury this season, was a second-half substitute in United’s recent goalless draw with Aston Villa. However, Mourinho, now at Fenerbahce, appears eager to work with him again after their time together at United.
This potential move could be a significant boost for Fenerbahce, who are looking to bolster their defensive options.
This wouldn’t be the first time Mourinho has sought out former players for his current projects. His affinity for reuniting with trusted players has been a key feature of his managerial style, as seen in previous transfers during his stints at various clubs, such as signing Nemanja Matic three times across the Serbian midfielder’s career.
The experience of Lindelöf, who the Portugese manager signed for United in 2017, and familiarity with Mourinho’s tactical demands would make him an ideal candidate for a move to Turkey, should the transfer materialise.
While no decision has been made regarding whether the move will occur in January or next summer, it is expected that the Swedish international will certainly not be on the club’s books by the time the 2025 summer window arrives.
