Manchester United seem bemused by Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s request for a £7 million payoff to join West Ham United this summer.

Manchester United made an assertive start to the 2024 transfer window by signing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and pulling off a major coup with the acquisition of Leny Yoro from Lille, beating out competition from Real Madrid.

However, with these two signings costing £88 million combined, the club now needs to offload some players to fund additional transfers. Erik ten Hag’s squad has already seen the departures of Mason Greenwood, Willy Kambwala, and Alvaro Fernandez.

As they look to further reinforce their squad, United are now focused on bringing in a midfielder, right-back, and center-back. Strong rumours link the club with Bayern Munich’s defensive pair, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, as they aim to solidify their defence for the upcoming season.

However, for either player to be signed, further sales must be made, and it was almost unanimously expected that right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be the next out the door.

Wan-Bissaka is thought to have been close to a move to West Ham in the coming weeks, but a new report has thrown this into jeopardy, explaining that he wants a significant pay-off to leave the club.

According to the reliable West Ham outlet Claret & Hugh, Wan-Bissaka is demanding he be paid £7 million to leave the club this summer.

“Wan-Bissaka wants a £7m payoff from United because he’s a Bosman in a year. That’s the problem,” a West Ham source told the London-based outlet.

Further, the report explains that United have “no desire” to pay a loyalty bonus of that size to a departing player, showing that they are rather bemused by the request. Further, West Ham are “in no position to pay such a hefty fee” on top of the £15-18 million rumoured transfer figure.

This demand is, therefore, causing a massive transfer issue. United need to move Wan-Bissaka on in order to bring in Mazraoui and secure breathing space for further signings. This is an issue that must be resolved in the coming days.
