Manchester United man now “main focus” for summer transfer after £34m swoop
Manchester United’s Scott McTominay is now said to be the main focus for a Premier League side following their £34 million signing.
Scott McTominay‘s 2023/24 season at Manchester United has been his best, with the midfielder scoring 10 goals under Erik ten Hag.
Since his debut under Jose Mourinho in 2017, McTominay has been a dependable and versatile player for every manager during his seven-year stint with the first team. However, this season looks to be his last at Old Trafford.

In 2023, McTominay was on the verge of a £30 million move to West Ham, but the transfer fell through, keeping him at United for another season. Now, with INEOS needing to raise funds for new signings, McTominay is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs.
Recent reports have claimed that, while United were originally keen on selling the player to raise funds this summer, they have since made a U-turn and are now preparing to extend his contract by a further year.
Ten Hag is said to value McTominay as a prized piece of his United puzzle, meaning he could now be set to stay at the club. His current contract expires next summer, but the one-year option means he would be tied to the club until 2026.
But, in a developing story, Sky Sports have established that Fulham are set to return to their pursuit of McTominay, with the player a main focus for the London club.
Fulham are set to sign Emile Smith-Rowe from Arsenal for a fixed fee of £27 million plus a further £7 million in add-ons. Following this, they are expected to return with an improved offer for McTominay.
Further, the report states that “McTominay’s future could dictate whether Manchester United bring in a midfielder.”
Sky Sports continue, explaining: “Man Utd continue to work on a number of deals in the meantime.
“They are in open dialogue with PSG over Manuel Ugarte and are interested in Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi. Sofyan Amrabat is a player United are still considering signing independent of other deals.”
