Manchester United already want Ruben Amorim’s best player – The £66m star has friends at Old Trafford
Previous reports have already explained that Manchester United are fans of Ruben Amorim’s best player and that he has friends at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are moving swiftly to appoint Ruben Amorim as their next Head Coach following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman’s fate was sealed after United’s narrow 2-1 loss to West Ham last weekend in the Premier League, with Jarrad Bowen slotting in a penalty after a controversial call.
Ten Hag’s departure was confirmed on Monday morning, and by the evening, reports had already surfaced that Sporting CP’s Amorim was United’s top target and had reached an agreement with the club.
As United face Leicester City and Chelsea in the coming week, former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team in an interim capacity.
Amorim’s best player
As there always is with a new manager, many are speculating as to what type of player Amorim will want at United. However, his perfect player may already be at his current club and may be available for transfer in 2025.
25-year-old midfielder Morten Hjulmand is widely considered to be one of the best, if not the best, players at the Liga Portugal club and is essential to Amorim’s system.
Hjulmand, whom United have been tracking for well over a year, has a release clause of around £66 million in his current contract and has been tipped to move to the Premier League in the 2025 summer transfer window.
Hjulmand is Danish and is considered close to Rasmus Højlund and Christian Eriksen, who play at Old Trafford. He impressed both scouts and fans during Euro 2024, when he started alongside the United pair.
Hjulmand’s Premier League thoughts
During the summer, the Danish star was asked about his thoughts on a potential move to the Premier League. He explained that he is happy at Sporting but refused to rule it out in the future.
“I haven’t thought about it. There are rumours all the time about different players, coaches and clubs. It’s normal,” he began.
“It’s not something a player should waste energy or time on. We need to have our minds focused elsewhere: here, on our day-to-day lives, when we have so many games to play.”
“I can say that this time at Sporting has been incredible. I really enjoy coming to train every day. I like living in Portugal, and I still have a long-term contract with Sporting. Of course, I want to stay at the club!
“Maybe one day it will be the right time to go to the Premier League… But I’m very happy where I am now and with my life at Sporting.”
With Amroim now likely moving to United, there is the idea that Hjulmand may follow suit, considering his potential exit in 2025.
