“Really excited…” Manchester United star explains why Rúben Amorim WILL succeed in the Premier League
Diogo Dalot has explained why he feels Rúben Amorim will become a success as he’s appointed as head coach of Manchester United.
Rúben Amorim has been appointed as the new head coach of Manchester United after Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s club let go of Erik ten Hag after a poor start to the 2024/25 season.
The club are currently 13th in the Premier League table and has yet to win the Europa League, which led to the Dutchman’s dismissal from his duties at Old Trafford.

While the club have confirmed Amorim’s appointment, he won’t take charge of the squad until 11 November, meaning Ruud van Nistelrooy has taken charge of two games at the club so far and is set to remain in charge against PAOK and Leicester City next week.
However, with the players knowing that Van Nistelrooy’s role is temporary, many have been eyeing Amorim’s arrival with excitement, including United right-back Diogo Dalot.
Amorim is a ‘fantastic’ coach
Being Portuguese himself, Dalot is well-connected with those who have worked with Amorim before. Speaking recently, the 25-year-old explained that although he does not know the new head coach personally, he has heard great things from those around him.
“Personally, I don’t know him,” Dalot told the Premier League.
“What I know is from what I see, from what I get from my national team teammates. He’s obviously a fantastic coach with a young mentality, but at the same time, he knows what he wants.
“He’s very demanding – that’s what I can expect and I think that’s the perfect match for a club like this.
“The standards are really high. He is a person that you can see has really high standards, and he stands by them, so I hope that [we] can be a really good match and that we can win together.
“That’s what I hope the most.”
Amorim will succeed in the Premier League
There has been some speculation that, as Amorim has never managed outside of Portugal, he may find the step up to the Premier League too much of a stretch, especially since he only has six years of experience as a manager/head coach.
However, Dalot has dispelled this, explaining that many of those who have taken the step from Portugal to England have succeeded. Examples at United include himself, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Bruno Fernandes.
“Yes, I think the Premier League really suits obviously people from Portugal,” Dalot added.
“We have this culture of constantly trying to prove ourselves and trying to fight for a place because we come from a small country.
“It’s been all over the years, Portuguese managers and players coming to the Premier League and coming to England and being successful.
“So I really hope it’s one more case, and I’m really excited to start working with him.”
