Ruud van Nistelrooy makes big claim about Man United star, he will be ‘great’ under Ruben Amorim
Ruud van Nistelrooy has made a big claim about one Manchester United star this week, who he thinks will be ‘great’ for the club under new manager Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United decided to sack Erik ten Hag at the beginning of this week and his assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge on an interim basis.
After winning his first game against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup, the United legend has three more games in the hot-seat before new head coach Ruben Amorim comes into the building.
Amorim will have an underperforming squad that he is tasked with improving before transfer window additions even come into the equation. United’s squad is much better than 13th – where they currently lie in the Premier League table.
Yet, there are some players who seem like they will suit the new manager perfectly, none more-so than summer signing Manuel Ugarte.
Ugarte has had difficulties settling into life at Old Trafford, with just one Premier League start to his name so far this season.
However, he previously worked under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon and thrived so much that Paris Saint-Germain paid top dollar to sign him in the summer of 2023.
Despite his shaky start at United, Van Nistelrooy believes that Ugarte will become a key player for the club under Amorim and suggests that people should not be so quick to write off new signings.
“I’m convinced about Manuel that he will be a great player for United,” Van Nistelrooy told reporters this week.
“I think yesterday [vs Leicester City] he had a very good performance, against Fenerbahce he had a good performance. Getting players in an early conclusion, players that are here for two or three months, you should be careful with that I think.
“It’s a great signing, very good player, professional, he has very specific qualities in midfield, gets in between players, can recover a lot of balls for us to get us in attacking positions. Also, on the ball, very decent so I think he will be a very good player for this club.
“He’s adjusting, he wants to adjust, he wants to be part of this club, do well and he’s very motivated to do so. He’s getting better every time, the performance yesterday was good and he can build on that.
“We are very thin in midfield, the coming games, we’re going to definitely need him and I think he’ll do well in the coming games.”
