Manchester United predicted XI vs Leicester City – Rúben Amorim has to drop “quality” star (Premier League)
Rúben Amorim has little choice but to drop a “quality” star as Manchester United line up to face Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
Manchester United return to Premier League action with a trip to Leicester City, as Rúben Amorim looks to build on a strong midweek performance.
United were in top form on Thursday night, securing a commanding 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad to reach the Europa League quarter-finals, where they will face Olympique Lyonnais next month.
With that tie still on the horizon, their immediate focus shifts back to the league, where they aim to improve on their current 14th-place position.
This fixture also reunites United with club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, who briefly served as interim manager before Amorim’s arrival in November. It will be the second time the two managers go head-to-head this season.
United have already beaten Leicester three times this campaign, recording victories in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Premier League—all at Old Trafford. However, this time, they must take on the Foxes at the King Power Stadium, presenting a new challenge.
Amorim must drop “quality” star vs Leicester
The tie against Leicester will be United’s final fixture before the international break, and there is no doubt Amorim will want to back up the Sociedad win with a good performance and result in this weekend.
André Onana will start in goal as always, while Amorim has little options available for him in the back five.
With Patrick Dorgu suspended, Diogo Dalot will have to shift to left wing-back, with Noussair Mazraoui stepping up to replace him on the right.
Although fans may call for youngster Harry Amass to make his debut on the left, Amorim is unlikely to choose the player due to his lack of experience.
With Mazraoui having to exit the back three to replace Dalot, Amorim only has Matthijs de Ligt, Victor Lindelöf, and Ayden Heaven as the available centre-backs. Lindelöf is, therefore, likely to play in the middle while Heaven continues on the left and De Ligt slots in on the right.
As for the midfield, Bruno Fernandes will continue in his deeper role, but Casemiro is likely to be replaced by Manuel Ugarte after Amorim admitted that the former is “tired” after playing three games in a row.
Casemiro, who Dorgu dubbed as “quality” earlier this week, has been fantastic in his last few appearances, but Amorim must manage the 32-year-old carefully, hence why Ugarte may return to the side.
In attack, Alejandro Garnacho has performed well on the right-hand side across the last three games, while Rasmus Højlund was applauded for his performance as the striker against Sociedad.
Joshua Zirkzee is continuing to embed himself as a fan favourite with excellent displays on the left, and all three players are expected to continue as the strike force against Leicester.
United predicted XI vs Leicester
