Match Coverage
Player Ratings: Manchester United 4-1 Real Sociedad (Europa League)
Manchester United won 4-1 against Real Sociedad in the second-leg of their Europa League round-of-16 tie to secure their place in the quarter-finals.
It was a horror start to the game for Manchester United after Real Sociedad won a penalty within the opening 10 minutes of the match.
Mikel Oyarzabal scored from the spot to give the visitors a surprise lead at Old Trafford, sending André Onana the wrong way.
Ruben Amorim’s men responded brilliantly, however, and Rasmus Højlund won a penalty himself at the other end, which Bruno Fernandes converted expertly.
In the second half, Fernandes added another from the spot after Patrick Dorgu won the third penalty of the game. The Portuguese captain then netted his second United hat-trick.
Diogo Dalot added a fourth goal in the dying stages of the game to make it a strong victory for Amorim’s men.
United player ratings vs Sociedad
André Onana – 6/10
Not much to deal with other with the penalty. Distribution was questionable.
Noussair Mazraoui – 8/10
Really good display. Kept the pressure on.
Matthijs de Ligt – 6.6/10
The penalty seemed slightly harsh. Still needs to be better in the situation. Solid otherwise.
Ayden Heaven – 8.5/10
This is his full professional debut? Really. The teenager looked like he’s playing at the park with his mates. Superb composure on the ball, great pass selection and made some important tackles.
Diogo Dalot – 8/10
Looked much better on the right and got a goal at the end.
Casemiro – 9/10
Kickstarted the move for United’s penalty with a brilliant pass. He was great in the middle and got a standing ovation when replaced.
Bruno Fernandes – 10/10
Two penalties in one game against the same goalkeeper can sometimes be difficult. Not for Bruno, who also smashed in a third to get his second United hat-trick. Hero.
Patrick Dorgu – 8.5/10
Decent first-half performance, brilliant in the second half.
Alejandro Garnacho – 7/10
Worked tirelessly and a good assist for Bruno’s third.
Joshua Zirkzee – 8.5/10
This is not a 6’5 footballer. I don’t think he won a header in the game but produced some magical moments with the ball at his feet. Worked tirelessly out of possession too.
Rasmus Højlund – 7.5/10
Won a penalty and assisted the fourth. A lot more involved. Just still can’t seem to buy a goal.
Substitutes
Toby Collyer – 7/10
Christian Eriksen – 6/10
