Erik ten Hag has issued five Manchester United injury updates as Brighton have up to nine players missing for the Premier League encounter.

After defeating Newcastle United 3-2 during their final home fixture of the season, Manchester United will wrap up their Premier League campaign with a trip to Brighton.

In the reverse fixture early in the league season, Brighton visited Old Trafford and came away with a 3-1 victory, thoroughly embarrassing Erik ten Hag‘s men.

However, following the Newcastle win and the pending FA Cup final next weekend, the club is surrounded by a sense of positivity, with Ten Hag issuing four positive injury updates ahead of the game.

“I can’t say in this moment [if anyone will return on Sunday], but we are working to bring players back,” Ten Hag began in his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon.

He continued, explaining that Martínez’s recovery is going well following his return to action on Wednesday evening and also issued positive updates on Raphaël Varane and Victor Lindelöf.

“We have seen yesterday Licha Martinez [is back], he had a good session now as well. There were also others on the pitch, like Rapha Varane, Victor Lindelöf, they returned on the pitch. We have to see how far [off a return] they are on Sunday.

“Tomorrow we have off, Saturday we have training, and then we will see what we have.”

The Dutch manager was then asked about Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire, questioned on if they will be in fit to contend for the upcoming England squad.

“For England, I can’t say, it’s not up to me. But for the cup final, we’re working on [it],” Erik added.

“I think Harry Maguire, I think it’s a fair chance that he will be available [for the final]. We plan [for] him.

“Luke is more complicated. In this moment, let’s say it’s a less chance that he will make it. But there is still a very small, reduced chance. He had a setback, now we have to find out how far [from a return] he is.”

Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia remains out, and Anthony Martial’s fitness has not been updated. Martial said goodbye to Old Trafford for the final time on Wednesday evening. Mason Mount is expected to return against Brighton.

Brighton have several players who are currently unavailable, with up to nine on the sidelines for Sunday afternoon’s clash.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi has issued an update on defender Lewis Dunk after the centre-half hurt his knee against Chelsea.

“I hope for him it is not a big problem,” said Roberto De Zerbi. “I don’t know if he can be available for Sunday. But more important for him is the possibility to be available for [the Euros]. It’s a knee problem.”

Beyond this, Jan Paul van Hecke, Pervis Estupinan, Evan Ferguson, Jack Hinshelwood, Solly March, James Milner, and Kaoru Mitoma are all injured. There is doubt surrounding Joel Veltman, while Joao Pedro and Valentin Barco have returned to the squad.
