Manchester United have received a surprise transfer update regarding Scott McTominay after he travelled to Italy for his Napoli medical.

United have signed four players for Erik ten Hag’s first team this summer and Manuel Ugarte is expected to become the fifth.

Meanwhile, Scott McTominay is set to become one of many to depart the club as the new INEOS regime aims to improve their ability to sell in the market.

Various reporters, including Fabrizio Romano, explained that McTominay had travelled to Italy for his medical on Thursday morning.

The Scotsman left Manchester after a deal was reached between the two clubs on what many described as a fair fee.

McTominay was set to leave for a total package of £25 million, which included add-ons, but the Reds also would have a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the contract.

However, on Thursday evening, a surprise update came in through the Manchester Evening News.

Chief correspondent Samuel Luckhurst reported that Napoli are now expected to pay United a total package of £30 million for the midfielder.

It was not explained why the fee has increased despite there being a prior agreement, but if this news is true then United fans can be pleasantly surprised.

Fulham were playing hardball with their pursuit of McTominay earlier in the summer, but you wouldn’t have been alone in suggesting that United should bow down and lower their demands.

But they have not only received their £30 million valuation but also sold the player abroad rather than to another Premier League club, and a 10 percent sell-on fee was involved in the deal.

Dan Ashworth and co. certainly impressed in their first window at Old Trafford, but fans are still eager for more business to be done.

In particular, after Mason Mount’s injury, there are now some questions about whether an additional central midfielder should be signed before the deadline.
