Man United star in “make or break” season as another player could produce transfer U-turn
One Manchester United star is entering his ‘make or break’ season at Old Trafford, while another player is attracting transfer interest this week.
Mason Mount, 25, faced significant challenges in his debut season with Manchester United, as various injuries kept the midfielder sidelined.
After joining from Premier League rivals Chelsea for £50 million, Mount was handed the iconic No. 7 shirt and had something to prove, but he has yet to do so.
Questions have been raised about his fit in Erik ten Hag’s system, particularly with the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo over the last year.
Mount started United’s first two games of the season and played a key role in their pressing game, but he struggled to make a notable impact with the ball.
Dimitar Berbatov believes that the midfielder has the quality to excel at Old Trafford but has urged the player to be ‘brave’ as he enters a ‘make or break’ season for himself at the club.
“First season was disappointing for him and something to forget. But he can learn from that and what he can learn is to get better. If you give him the opportunity he has to go out and give the best he can. He didn’t manage to do that last season, unfortunately,” Berbatov told Futbin.com
“But the talent and the quality is there. Everybody saw what he did at Chelsea, but he didn’t produce it at Manchester United.
“Bruno Fernandes is a similar type of player, but it is a long season and there are a lot of games to be played, and they need competition. He can make a difference with the passes and his runs.
“My only wish for him is to get through the thought that he is new and that he doesn’t want to take responsibility. It is his second season now and he needs to have a good season.
“This is the moment to make or break, so he has to go out there and be brave. Take some chances and risks. He has the quality, so don’t be afraid, Mason.”
Meanwhile, another midfielder’s career at the club could be ending, as Hannibal Mejbri is attracting interest from Burnley.
That’s according to The Athletic, among other reports, who state that the 21-year-old Tunisian could leave on loan or a permanent transfer.
This follows reports that stated it was “likely” that Hannibal moved to Spain or France this summer after handing in a transfer request last week.
After struggling for game-time at United and in Spain with Sevilla, joining the Championship favourites could be a good way to reignite his career.
The transfer window closes in less than two weeks, and United still have several pieces of business they would like to complete.
