Mason Mount has received another Manchester United boost ahead of 2024/25 campaign
Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has received another boost ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Mount, 25, experienced major difficulties during his first season as a United player, with various injuries keeping the midfielder out of the team.
Having joined from Premier League rivals Chelsea for £50 million, Mount was gifted the iconic no.7 shirt and immediately had a point to prove, which he has been unable to do so far.
There are major question marks surrounding the midfielder’s fit in Erik ten Hag’s system, especially after the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo.
However, the most important thing for Mount right now is getting minutes on the pitch and that looks like it’s going to be happening.
It appears likely that Casemiro and Christian Eriksen will leave the club this summer. Sofyan Amrabat has not signed a permanent deal with the club and Mainoo has been on international duty with England at Euro 2024.
That provides him with the opportunity to play consistently across pre-season, and the latest developments have been even more beneficial to him.
Mainoo has helped England reach the final of the European Championships in Germany, where they will face Spain.
The Berlin final will be the teenager’s 40th appearance for club and country since his full Premier League debut against Everton on 26 November last year.
That will mean that Mainoo would have played a game of football, on average, every 5.7 days during that period. It is quite simple: This incredible talent will need a break.
Ten Hag’s side must be able to perform without the 19-year-old at the start of the season because it would be a risk to throw him back into action after his holidays.
Mount could make this situation a positive for himself. The no.8 position is clearly his best, and he could provide a solution for Ten Hag that allows Mainoo some much-needed rest and give another option for the team.
