Man United aiming for “shock” Premier League transfer after Sir Dave Brailsford conversation
Manchester United and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are targeting a shock Premier League transfer for Luton Town midfielder Ross Barkley.
Barkley, 30, has been exceptional for Luton Town this season and is a key reason why they have a chance of remaining in the Premier League next season.
United’s midfield is likely to be trimmed down in the summer, with potential exits for Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek.
Barkley could be an affordable option to add quality and depth to the United squad, while Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS must navigate the club’s FFP situation carefully in their transfers.
According to Alan Nixon, the new INEOS regime are lining up a “shock” move for the Premier League midfielder, with Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford huge fans of the former Nice midfielder.
The INEOS chiefs had signed Barkley to their French club at the start of last season in a move that helped reignite the former England international’s career.
His impressive form for Luton this term has put him on United’s wanted list as a surprise and cheap option.
The 30-year-old excelled against United last week, where The Reds won 2-1 at Kenilworth Road. He was close to scoring an equaliser in the last minute after his headed effort struck the crossbar.
After that game, Dave Brailsford greeted Barkley, with the pair sharing a hug. The INEOS chief has been present at every United game since their investment was confirmed.
Barkley has started 18 Premier League games so far this term, scoring three goals and registering three assists.
