Man United are awaiting major decision before pursuing fan-favourite transfer option
Manchester United are expecting a busy first transfer window under INEOS leadership this summer and could target some exciting Premier League talent.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe will soon be hoping to finalise the team in the background at Old Trafford, with sporting director Dan Ashworth set to lead the project alongside chief executive Omar Berrada.
United have underperformed this season under Erik ten Hag and there will likely be a large amount of exits when the summer window opens. That will open up space for signings to be made.
There are several key positions that have been outlined in the media in recent months, particularly at either end of the pitch. Countless reports have explained that a back-up to Rasmus Højlund as well as a centre-back are two priority targets for the Old Trafford club this summer.
That information was echoed in a recent report from Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath. He interestingly added further detail on United’s potential midfield plans.
An additional signing in the engine room has also been spoken about, and Amadou Onana has quickly become the fan-favourite option. The Belgian midfielder is touted as the best match for Kobbie Mainoo’s abilities in the midfield.
However, McGrath explained that United are awaiting a major decision before they decide to pursue midfield options for the summer window.
Casemiro’s future at the club remains unknown and the report detailed that whether the Brazilian leaves or stays at United will determine whether they look for a midfielder in the summer window.
The 32-year-old has received interest from Saudi Arabian clubs over the last 12 months. United signed him from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 for a £70 million package.
After a tremendous debut campaign under Ten Hag, the defensive midfielder has dropped several levels during the 2023/24 season.
His future will likely be decided soon after the new regime and personnel take place at Old Trafford if it does depend on the search for a new midfielder.
