Man United legend urges Erik ten Hag to make huge FA Cup final change, fans might disagree
One Manchester United legend has urged Erik ten Hag to make a huge change for the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City.
The Reds will face their rivals at Wembley on Saturday afternoon in their last attempt to make the season a success.
Erik ten Hag’s side finished eighth in the Premier League, the club’s worst-ever finish, while Pep Guardiola and his team won the title once again.
It will be a difficult task to win against City and Gary Neville believes there must be changes to the lineup in order to cause problems for the opposition.
The former right-back has suggested that packing the midfield could be one option Ten Hag looks at in order to minimise the City control.
Yet, it is Neville’s suggestions in the front line that may cause controversy, with the 49-year-old claiming that Rasmus Højlund and Marcus Rashford should start as split-strikers against Guardiola’s side.
Despite Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo being in solid form, Neville has suggested that Højlund and Rashford would cause City problems on the break, with United unlikely to bolster most of the possession.
“Is there a way of getting Bruno [Fernandes], [Scott] McTominay, [Kobbie] Mainoo and [Sofyan] Amrabat into the same midfield somehow?” Neville said on the Overlap.
“Then having like a Rashford and a Hojlund just literally, cause there’s no doubt Rashford and Hojlund can cause Man City problems in moments in games, they can.
“In those two channels, I would want Hojlund, and I would want [Rashford].
“You’ve just got to hope Rashford and Hojlund, split strikers of some kind.”
A controversial change
While bringing Højlund back into the lineup would not raise many eyebrows, especially since he has scored in both of his last two games, it is the inclusion of Rashford over Garnacho that would surprise many.
Garnacho has started 37 games in a row for United and has been one of the most consistent performers for Ten Hag this season.
However, the teenager has previously caused danger for City coming off the bench, particularly during the win at Old Trafford last season and the narrow defeat in the FA Cup final last term.
Ultimately, it would be a very brave decision for Ten Hag to bring Rashford into the fold. Despite his record against City, the 26-year-old is unlikely to be filled with confidence going into the game.
