Manchester United are interested in signing Antonio Silva despite the centre-back being linked to Bayern Munich and other top clubs.

According to reports from Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, the 20-year-old is being monitored by many clubs, including United who are “also keen on him.”

The Benfica centre-back has a release clause of around €100m, but a transfer fee between €70-80 could be negotiated.

While Lisandro Martínez and Raphaël Varane have each impressed as centre-backs for Manchester United, each has faced challenges with injuries throughout the season.

This has resulted in a lack of consistency in the United defensive lineup, with frequent changes in both centre-back positions.

To address this issue, United manager Erik ten Hag might consider acquiring a young central defender who is less prone to injuries to ensure stability in the team’s defence.

As it stands, Raphaël Varane is set to leave Old Trafford this summer with the club refusing to extend his current contract and the player seemingly unwilling to stay on with a reduced wage, Silva would be seen as a replacement for the World Cup winner, despite Varane being a starting XI player

In the situation surrounding injuries, Antonio Silva would be perfect. The Portuguese international has not suffered a notable injury throughout his career so far despite playing almost every minute of every game for Benfica.

Bayern Munich are believed to be another of the clubs interested in securing Silva’s signature after monitoring his development for quite some time.

However, it is believed that the German champions currently do not have plans to sign a centre-back as expensive as Silva as they wait to decide on the futures of current centre-backs Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano.
